Review: Mendo Breath by Rythm
My advice to people looking to find cultivars that work best is to shop by genetics. By choosing a closely related strain to one that you know you already enjoy, you’re maximizing the chances of finding something else that works well. As a big fan of Dosidos, I was excited to try a strain that shares its OGKB parentage when I saw Mendo Breath by Rythm on the menu at Rise Effingham.
Mendo Breath is an indica-leaning hybrid cross of OG Kush Breath and Mendo Montage. This batch of flower tested at 0.26% THC and 25.26% THCa for a total cannabinoid number of 25.52%. The heaviest indicated terpenes were limonene, linalool, β-caryophyllene, and β-myrcene.

This eighth came as three large cola tips. The flowers were notably dense and layered with thick red hairs that had curled inward. The trichomes were thick, giving the buds a glistening frost covering that only allowed hints of deep green to peek through.
When held up to light the trichomes had a distinct shimmer and sparkle. On first inspection the flowers seemed to be just on the dry side but they had a nice greasiness when broken up by hand. The scent on the top end was a complex combination of sweet caramel, tobacco, tea tree, and malt. There was also a fascinating sweet woody tone that can be accurately described as bourbon.
The sweet notes come to the front of the flavor profile when smoked with caramel and heavy cream on the top end and more of that woody, malty tobacco tone coming in on the finish. Mendo Breath is widely known for a vanilla flavor and aroma, which I didn’t detect as a standalone note but it may have contributed to the bourbon aroma I found.
Effects wise, Mendo Breath was a slow build for me. The initial wide-open headspace calmed me down and gave me the space to unwind from my day. Slowly, my mood shifted from baseline to a lighthearted positivity that lasted the entire experience.
Physically it took some time before the initial headband-style tightness at my crown set in, followed by a slowly crescendoing wave of warm-blanket indica-style heaviness throughout my entire body. There was a moment on my Mendo Breath journey where I wondered if I hadn’t smoked enough, but time answered that question, as my initial dose was enough to lull me to sleep. Overall, I enjoyed the sweet caramel and bourbon notes I found in these attractive flowers and the slow build quality of the effect profile is something special.
