Review: Motorbreath 15, Blueberry Cupcake, and Limelight Prerolls by Crops
One of the things I miss most about my time in the wine industry is the practice of tasting “flights” of different wines side-by-side. This comparative experience allowed me to appreciate the unique characteristics of each wine and develop a better palate. While I wait for Illinois cultivators to release multi-strain products that offer a similar experience, I’ve been doing the next best thing and creating my own flights of cannabis strains. Recently, I stopped at Consume Marion and picked up three different Crops prerolls: Motorbreath 15, Blueberry Cupcake, and Limelight to see how the flavors and effects compared.
Motorbreath 15 is a cross of Chemdog and San Fernando Valley OG, and this preroll tested at 0.4% THC, 33.79% THCa, and 34.76% total cannabinoids. Blueberry Cupcake, a 50/50 hybrid cross of Blueberry Muffin and Wedding Cake, tested at 0.52% THC, 24.29% THCa, and 25.36% total cannabinoids. Limelight is a sativa-dominant hybrid strain created through crossing Orange Zeta and Blue Flame OG, and this preroll tested at 0.36% THC, 16.78% THCa, and 17.89% total cannabinoids.
Each preroll burned clean with an even pace, but the aroma, flavor, and experience of the three were worlds apart. Inside the Motorbreath 15 tube the scent was a gassy combination of diesel, pine, leafy greens, and hints of sweet cherry on the finish. The flavor brought out some more of the fruit with notes of figs and berries appearing alongside diesel, cedar, and pine.
Opening the Blueberry Cupcake released a sweet and tangy blend of berries, lemon, cream, and rose. Smoking brought the fruit flavors out even further with notes of lemon, blueberry, blackberry, orange, and strawberry on the inhale and smooth cedar and cream on the finish. Limelight was the most subdued of the three strains, and after some exploration, I found floral tones of lavender and lily among other green notes of hops and grass. The flavor carried that green flavor with grass, hay, and hops dominating the inhale and the light flowery flavors of lavender and rose holding up the release.
Motorbreath set in quickly, opening with a light relaxation before building into a heavy indica buzz that slowed me down and left me introspective. Motorbreath was truly “stoning” with a physical aspect as heavy as the mental side leaving me feeling heavy and tired for a long time after finishing the joint.
Blueberry Cupcake rode the line of 50/50 hybrid well, calming me and allowing a clearheaded focus that made working and socializing easier. Blueberry Cupcake provided an unexpected boost of energy and motivation as well. Physically, the effects were light, providing a tingling in my core that seemed to come and go as the experience progressed.
Limelight’s subdued nature wasn’t limited only to the flavor, and it took some time before a light relaxation in my joints and mental playfulness set in. Silly and unfocused, Limelight was good for a short break but left me wanting more. Overall, Crops delivered a wide range of flavors and effects, exactly the thing I was hoping to find in my preroll flight. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
