Review: Pheno 51 Live Budder by Cresco
I ended up at Consume Marion perusing the concentrate menu for my new dab rig. Much to my delight, I spotted a strain I’d been searching for since I watched it come and go as a 1g pre-roll all the way back in January of 2019, Cresco Pheno 51.
Pheno 51 is a Cresco in-house hybrid cross of Star Killer and Skywalker OG. This batch of budder tested at 75.273% THCA and 77.937% total cannabinoids. Although Cresco doesn’t provide a full terpene testing profile, they do mark the package with the two dominant terps: myrcene and caryophyllene.

The live butter was bright yellow with a vibrant straw-colored undertone similar to a dense champagne. A close-up inpection revealed a wonderful sparkling translucency. The well-rounded moisture content made for an easily malleable and scoopable wax. Even at room temperature, this budder was easy to work with and dose.
The aroma hit up front with fresh hops, cracked black pepper, and a hint of sweet clove. As I reached past these top notes, a strong earthy-pine tone with hints of crisp citrus rounded out the smell

Vaporized across a quartz nail, the clove, hops, and earthy pine dominated the flavor. The exhale was smooth with the earth tones giving way to flashes of sweet vanilla, oak, citrus, and thick pine. Lower temperatures brought out the citrus and pine flavors.
Pheno 51 struck a great balance providing powerful pain relief while also alleviating anxiety enough to allow me to focus. The strain was uplifting and creative at low doses. At higher doses, the pain relief gave way to a euphoric tingling body buzz that satisfied without crossing the line into overpowering. I also didn’t see a noticeable increase in appetite.
This uplifting day-use concentrate served me well while working inside or outside. The creativity boost enabled a wonderful workday focus while the strong pain relief served well on hikes and working in the yard. For patients looking for an uplifting workday pain reliever, this should land well.
