Review: Red Raspberry Yuzu, Mango Thai Basil, and Ruby Red Grapefruit Mint Gummies by CannaWerks
The Illinois market for gummies has seen significant evolution in recent times. Consumers are now seeking more than just a standard infused edible, and are turning to producers that offer treats built on all-natural and culinary-inspired flavors. CannaWerks is a new label, brought to Illinois by Baked Buds, dedicated to these ideals. Intrigued, I stopped by nuEra Champaign to sample a trio of CannaWerks gummies.
CannaWerks gummies come in 10 packs of 10mg THC gummies. They offer three options: Mango Thai Basil Indica, Ruby Red Grapefruit Mint Sativa, and Red Raspberry Yuzu Hybrid. The ingredients are tapioca syrup, sugar, water, gelatin, citric acid, sunflower lecithin, natural flavoring, natural coloring, cannabis oil and terpenes. The Mango Thai Basil uses turmeric for natural coloring while the Ruby Red Raspberry Grapefruit and Red Raspberry Yuzu use beets and annatto and while the Mango Thai Basil and Ruby Red Raspberry Grapefruit include MCT Oil as their final listed ingredient, the Red Raspberry Yuzu does not.
The gummies were each an amber-colored circle, about the size of a nickel and a quarter-inch thick. Individually sealed in a blister-style plastic pack with a peel-back top, the packaging kept the gummies fresh and moist. Unlike many other gummies, these were not coated in sugar, resulting in a pleasantly “juicy” mouth feel.
CannaWerks embraced the earthy herbal flavor of cannabis oil in its gummies by building on it with flavors like basil and mint. The Red Raspberry Yuzu flavor began with a sweet-tart contrast, followed by a tropical blend of citrus and fresh yuzu. In contrast, the Mango Thai Basil flavor hit all at once with savory dried basil, rosemary, and a pine-heavy unripe mango note.
The Ruby Red Grapefruit Mint pairs well with the gummies’ juicy mouth, creating the sensation of chewing on fresh mint leaves before a tangy, bitter grapefruit note acts as a refreshing palate cleanser. Overall, all of CannaWerks’ gummies tasted fresh and impressively similar to their real-life counterparts.
CannaWerks offers gummies in sativa, hybrid, and indica varieties, but I noticed little difference in their effects. Regardless of the strain, these gummies acted quickly, taking less time than the hour advertised on the package to induce a strong, full-body relaxation, and light euphoric sensations in my limbs.
Mentally, CannaWerks gummies induced a silly attitude that left me feeling unfocused and carefree. Any anxieties that had been weighing on me before consuming the gummies were lifted for the duration of the experience. Overall, CannaWerks gummies provided a reliable and enjoyable high, regardless of the strain variety. For more Illinois News Joint reviews, visit here.
