Compound Genetics has created some of my favorite strains. Flavorful genetics, such as The Menthol and Jet Fuel Gelato, have cemented Compound Genetics reputation as a world-class breeder. That’s why I get excited when I see in-state cultivators using Compound Genetics; I know cultivators started with quality. Crops has added Refined Taste, a Compound creation, to its lineup, so I picked up a sample from Consume Marion for this review.

Refined Taste is an indica-leaning hybrid cross of Jet Fuel Gelato and Pure Kush, created by Compound Genetics. This batch of flower tested at 0.22% THC, 21.34% THCa, and 22.12% total cannabinoids. Primary terpenes included limonene, β-caryophyllene, linalool, α-terpineol, and endo-fenchyl alcohol.

I opened the jar to find large cola tips, half as long as my thumb and twice as thick. The trichome frost covering the buds was milky but sparkled when held up to the light. Rust colored hairs crisscrossed the bright green flower and bunched up at the yellow and green sugar leaf remnants that clung to the bud.

The aroma from the jar was a light blend of berry notes, heavy cream, and a sour finish of hot diesel. A pass through the grinder unleashed the terpenes, providing additional notes of mint, sage, and a synergy of candy sweetness and lemon that reminded me of a Lemon Shake Up from the fair. Sage, berry, and diesel were the highlights of the flavor profile, remaining remarkably consistent from inhale to exhale.

Refined Taste invoked a pleasantly cerebral experience. Relaxed, but highly imaginative, I kept returning to Refined Taste as an after dinner stress reliever.
