Review: Starchild Live Resin by Bedford Grow
I’ve been impressed with Bedford Grow’s unending list of available concentrates for a while, and they haven’t stopped expanding that list. Concentrates are often the first category you will see cultivators offer strains in, and it’s fun to see concentrates I’ve loved come back to menus as flower six months later. Here’s another hopeful hit from the Bedford stable picked up at Maribis Springfield: Starchild Live Resin.
Star Child is an indica-leaning hybrid cross of Azrael, Mothership, and Redheaded Stranger. This live resin tested at 80.37% THCa, 4.52% D9-THC, 2.87% CBGA, and 88.75% total cannabinoids. The most prevalent terpenes were b-myrcene, terpinolene, and limonene.
Almost all of the latest releases from Bedford’s lab labeled live resin as of late have been coming as diamonds in sauce and this gram was no different. Solid coarse salt-sized crystals swam in a very moist, and surprisingly not overly sticky terpene sauce. The color was a bright sunflower yellow among the small translucent crystalline THCa structures.
The nose in the jar was tangy and so heavy in hop tone that it was almost slightly bitter. Tangy hops, burnt orange, lemon, cardamom, cinnamon, and honeysuckle were all detected. The aroma was dense and complex, funky was a good descriptor. The individual scents never outcompeted each other and worked synergistically to become better than the sum of the parts. The flavor held this complexity when vaporized, and there was an appreciable thickness to the vapor itself.
The effects set in quickly and started by cutting my anxiety down and quieting the running voice in my head. My body became relaxed, but I never found myself with a true heavy indica buzz. I found a lot of clarity in this experience in both body and mind ,and I owe it to the high amount of CBGa present in the extract. Relaxing without becoming overbearing, I’d be happy using this as I would a hybrid for daytime relaxation than as a straight indica.
Overall, I enjoyed the rich flavor and it’s characteristic funk, and the heavy CBGa clarity I found in the effects.
