I am often asked, “Which strains are best for me?” Which is near impossible to answer because everyone needs are different and most of the time specialized.

And more specifically I am asked, “Which is the best strain for a beginner to smoke?” Again, near impossible to answer without more information. But I think I have found the one strain that I would recommend to first time users: Tropical Sunrise by Matter.

I hadn’t heard of Tropical Sunrise until I picked up an eighth from Verilife Ottawa. With the strain name, I expected it to be a morning sativa with fruity flavors. Instead, Tropical Sunrise is a hybrid cross between Grape God (God Bud and Grapefruit) and Mandarin Sunset (Herojuana with Orange Skunk). This batch tested at 18.57 total THC.

The spade-shaped buds were light green with dark orange pistils and lightly covered in clear trichomes. The matching mild aroma and taste led with sweet herbal, wood, and spice with back notes of citrus. So it was no surprise that Tropical Sunrise’s terpenes profile led with beta-myrcene (1.74%), beta-caryophyllene (0.19%), elemene (0.16%), limonene (0.13%), and ocimene 0.07%).

The effects were the reason I would suggest this Tropical Sunrise for a first time flower smoker. Overall, this strain was a true hybrid with a smooth cerebral high that was not overwhelming in strength and did not stray too far from the middle. No racy moments or couchlock, just a smooth middle-of-the-road buzz that added a comfortable relaxing and pain-relieving body buzz. First-time smokers can use Tropical Sunrise to decide if they want to move more toward sativa energy effects or indica thoughtlock effects. Or toward stronger or milder effects. Tropical Sunrise would be a good base to start from.
