Ayr Wellness to sell four Illinois dispensaries
Ayr Wellness, a vertically integrated U.S. multi-state cannabis operator, announced in May 2022 it had closed the definitive agreement to acquire two Herbal Remedies Dispensaries. Ayr then acquired two more Illinois dispensaries, one in Hometown and one in Normal. Earlier this week, Ayr Wellness signed a letter of intent to sell all four Illinois dispensaries.
Ayr President George DeNardo said Thursday during the company’s fourth-quarter and full-year 2024 earnings call that Ayr will prioritize other markets to make sure it can deliver for its other business and stated that the company doesn’t have the necessary scale in Illinois to compete over the long term, Green Market Report reported. Ayr’s strongest footprint is in Florida, and the company also has retail stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
To date, the new prioritization has included closing a manufacturing facility in Nevada, streamlining its Nevada operations by closing its secondary cultivation site, subleasing its original medical cultivation and manufacturing facility in Massachusetts, and consolidating cultivation into an integrated facility capable of cultivation, manufacturing, and distribution. Herbal Remedies Quincy was among the first cannabis dispensaries licensed in the State of Illinois when the State approved the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Program in 2013.
