“Cannabis Art” Series: Triple Hippie
We are pleased to introduce Triple Hippie to our “Cannabis Art” series. Triple Hippie, located in southern Illinois, has been using art in one form or another as an outlet for creative energy and emotional expression for nearly their entire life.
Triple Hippie is a self-described upcycled/abstract artist. For those who don’t know, upcycling artists reuse discarded objects or material in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original.
“I love to use upcycled material, because its fun, challenging, and helps the planet,” they said. “I use a mixture of medias to create my pieces, and honestly the more material I use, the more satisfying I find it. Outdated media has been a big go-to for me. VHS, vinyls, tapes, floppy disc, CDs, DVDs, old magazines. It’s a blast! I recommend upcycling to everyone.”
Nowadays, as part of Triple Hippie’s artistic process, they obsess over a barrage of ideas running through their head at once.
“I keep a note on my digital memo pad on my phone where I write down all my ideas,” Triple Hippie said. “Some have been on that list for a long time, others barely make it before I jump on it. But when it comes to the actual creative process, I’m free, I’m messy, I trust myself. I usually like the turnout too.”
Triple Hippie finds incorporating cannabis consumption inspiring while working on art projects.
“It (cannabis) can be useful to feel more creative or inspired when in a slump, or to get over the hurdles of commission block,” they said.
A few on an endless list of Triple Hippie’s favorite artists include Ten Hundred, Slew, Trippydraws, and peter draws.
