My first paraphernalia purchase was during my first semester of college, 1992. Mattoon, Illinois, had a tattoo shop on Broadway named Toad’s that also sold smoke paraphernalia. I bought a wooden dugout that came with a brass hitter. I lost the hitter long ago, but I still have the dugout, which at this point is considered an antique. I have used the dugout on-and-off for the majority of my life, but times change.

Twenty-eight years later, I finally upgraded to the 2.3” Quick Hit Silicone Dugout by Waxmaid. The feature that drew me to this newly released product was, as usual with me, its discreetness. The food-grade silicon dugout is lightweight and pocketsize. But it also has plenty of room for flower, and the smoke tube has a deep bowl that is capable of delivering two or more full hits per load.

The short titanium tube has ridges to stop it from heating up, but what really stops the heat is the ceramic mouthpiece that is similarly shaped to ones found on cartridges. When the dugout is closed with the smoking tube and flower packed inside, the double smell proof lids keep unwanted loud aroma from escaping the dugout and my pocket.

On the side of the dugout is a key chain that can be attached to backpacks, clothing, and travel bags. But I actually took off the key chain for a more comfortable fit in my pants pocket. The Quick Hit Dugout allows me to sneak away from the family crowd for a quick medication session and return without missing anything.

The Quick Hit Dugout also comes with a small stainless steel and nylon bristles. The dense flexible bristles clean the tube and ceramic mouthpiece pretty well. To avoid losing the steel cleaner, attached the ring on the end of the bristles to the key chain.

Overall, my new Quick Hit Dugout serves its purpose in discreetness and in function, and at times, triggered forgotten memories with my old dugout. I haven’t completely retired the antique dugout, but I’m looking forward to making new memories with my new Quick Hit Dugout.
