Cannabis Cup Awards looking for Illinois judges
The High Times Cannabis Cup is looking for judges in Illinois.
For the first time, the High Times reinvented its awards to include public judges for the People’s Choice IllinoisCannabis Cup Awards.
Participants can register entries in eight possible categories. Hundreds of citizen-judges will evaluate the chosen categories (Judges Kits) from home.
High Times website states, “The High Times Cannabis Cup Illinois: People’s Choice Edition is aimed to identify and award the best cannabis products in all of Illinois, across a wide range of different categories. This event will be the first-ever competition that is open to the Illinois public and will see the largest pool of judges in history. This is a sampling dream to get your products into the hands of hundreds of new customers who will provide feedback on your entries, plus thousands of impressions. May the best products win!”

The public judging is open to adults 21 or older and medical patients 18 or older.
The judging kits will be available for purchase from Aug. 25-Sept. 23.
The awards virtual show is scheduled for the end of September.

Judges will rate Illinois brands of cannabis on several criteria, including appearance, aroma, flavor, and effects.
The competition includes eight categories.
- Indica Flower
- Sativa Flower
- Hybrid Flower
- Pre-Rolls
- Non-Solvent Concentrates
- Solvent Concentrates
- Vape Pens & Cartridges
- Edibles
As a judge, intake dates to pick up Judges Kits are Aug. 17-20 at participating dispensaries, which include Zen Leaf St. Charles, Beyond/Hello Sauget, Beyond/Hello Normal, Rise Effingham, and Rise Niles.

The contest is open only to cannabis products licensed by the state of Illinois.
While normally 28-35 experts and celebrity judges would determine the rankings, the competition has pivoted into crowdsourced rankings, offering 224 kits per category to consumers in statewide competitions across the country.
