Hemp and Cannabis Symposium Saturday, Sept. 17
The Southern Illinois Hemp and Cannabis Symposium, sponsored by Southern Illinois University Cannabis Science Center, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17, in Carbondale.
The 3rd annual symposium is set to start at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast and lunch included. This symposium is an in-person event at the SIU Carbondale Student Center and is open to anyone with an interest in the possibilities of growing and marketing hemp and cannabis products.
Attendees will learn more about the possibilities of growing and marketing hemp/Cannabis products. Speakers will focus on statewide efforts in Illinois, as well as broad efforts across the Midwest, touching on Farm Bill issues and Federal regulations.
Participants will also learn about new developments in the use of hemp materials in building and construction. Exhibitors and vendors will display modern production technologies in cannabis, in addition to consumer products.
In addition, hemp breeders will discuss the development of new cultivars, optimized for Illinois or for use in unique row crop production systems where fiber, seed, and cannabinoids can be harvested from the same crop. In addition, a leading innovator will discuss the development of a business model for taking fiber hemp from the farm to the processing facility.
Tentative symposium presenters include Chris Berry from Illinois Hemp Growers Association, Oussama Badad from Trilogene, DoKyoung Lee from the University of Illinois, Patrick Van Meter from Midwest Natural Fiber, Justin Swanson from Midwest Hemp Council, Jacob Waddell from the US Hemp Building Association, and Ryan Doherty from Hemp Ventures.
