IDOA enhances cannabis product registration process, moves to online portal
The Illinois Department of Agriculture’s Division of Cannabis Regulation announced in a press release today that this year the Illinois Department of Agriculture’s Division of Cannabis Regulation enhanced the product registration process while moving records to its online Licensing Portal. New enhancements include the ability to request updates to certain product details, and the requirement to report changes to packaging and/or labeling. As the end of the year approaches, it is important to ensure businesses are taking the appropriate steps to address 1) any incomplete registrations before they are deactivated; and 2) any outdated registrations before they are found noncompliant. Failure to act now may cause unwanted impacts or significant business disruptions.
As previously announced, all new labeling and/or packaging being considered for use must be uploaded to the Department through the online product registration update process and cannot be utilized until notification is received indicating processing has been completed successfully. Legacy registrations (processed prior to the online environment) were migrated online with only minimal identifying details and no images. Because the improved online process now requires additional details and current uploads to ensure compliance, the Department previously communicated that all legacy product registrations must be updated before the end of the year or risk being deactivated. That deadline is officially extended to March 31, 2025, for all cultivation centers, craft growers, and infusers. This is a one-time blanket extension for all licensees who have incomplete legacy product registrations reflected in the portal.
Products That Were Registered Prior to The Move Online Must Be Immediately Updated or Risk Deactivation.
Products registered prior to August 2024 are considered “legacy” product registrations. Legacy registrations must be updated to include all applicable details and uploads, identical to what is required of new online registrations. Failure to complete satisfactory registration updates before March 31, 2025, may result in registrations being considered incomplete and/or noncompliant. It is in registers interest to act now. The Department plans to begin deactivating incomplete or noncompliant product registrations beginning in April 2025.
