IDPH quickens patient dispensary transfer process
The Illinois Department of Public Health recently improved its process for Medical Cannabis Patient Program and Opioid Alternative Pilot Program patients who want to change dispensary.
In Illinois, all patients have to register with one dispensary.
IDPH has made it possible for patients to transfer from one dispensary to another.
To change dispensary, patients can easily complete the transfer online.
Requests are no longer to be sent to IDPH. On January 6, the IDPH stopped accepting paper or email requests for dispensary changes and implemented an online portal for transfers.
The new online system shortened the online dispensary transfer process from days to twenty-four hours.
Recently, the IDPH again shortened the process to an hour or less.
Patients have to log into their account and follow the few steps for transferring.
The patient’s current dispensary will be displayed and below will be an alphabetical list of all dispensaries to select for the change.
Anyone with provisional access will need to print another letter showing the new dispensary.
Patients who have never set up an online registration will need to do that in order to have a contact with a User Name and Password in the system. Once that is done, a dispensary change can be submitted.
What should be the next step to improve the system?
Should the IDPH implement a tracking system that eliminates the need for any registration and allows patient to purchase medicine at any dispensary in Illinois?
Should the IDPH accept out-of-state medically approved licenses from those who aren’t permanent Illinois residents? Several other states already do.
Should Illinois implement a delivery service for medical patience during the pandemic and beyond?
