Review: Cherry Alien OG by Rythm
One of the benefits of reviewing cannabis products in Illinois is that I get to try new strains that haven’t been around for long. For example, I picked up an eighth of Cherry Alien OG from NuMed in Urbana. This Cherry Alien OG by Rythm, an indica leaning strain, clocked in at 30.87 percent THC. I’m not sure of its lineage. One claim was that it was a cross between OG Kush and Alien Tech that was then hit with Golden Strawberries pollen. Another claim was it’s a combination of Cherry Pie (Grandaddy Purple and Durban Poison) with Alien Kush (Las Vegas Purple Kush and Alien Dawg).

The buds, covered with trichomes, were light green with orange hairs and the prefect density. The aroma was dynamic. The first whiff was a spicy lemon similar to Durban Poison but then the aroma punched with a stronger mix of sweet cherry pine and citrusy diesel. The taste was similar to the aroma that included a spicy lemon on the front end, followed by citrus and pine. The exhale finished with a cherry and earthy pine flavor.

As with the aroma and taste, the strong high was complicated and all over the place. It hit fast with a heavy head buzz. Though listed as an indica, in smaller doses the high doesn’t knock you out. In fact, I didn’t feel like melting into the couch at all, but I didn’t necessary feel like getting up and doing anything either. Though the muscle relaxation wasn’t as heavy as I prefer for medicating, the head high was fascinating: sometime spacey, sometimes thought provoking, sometimes inspirational. After several doses, though, the heaviness led to overall tiredness and allowed me to sleep well. I recommend Cherry Alien OG for binge watching television series, where the roller-coaster head high seems to fit best with the dramatic arcs of storytelling.
