Inclement weather forces Hemp, Hops, & Shrooms to Varsity Center
Because of inclement weather, the 3rd Annual Hemp, Hops & Shrooms festival, Off the Rails, and UNCHAiNED Groundbreaking Ceremony has been moved to the Varsity Center, located at 418 South Illinois Ave. in Carbondale. The Hemp, Hops & Shrooms festival is still set for this Saturday at 3 p.m. with the concert starting at 7 p.m. Unfortunately, the festival had to cancel its downtown arts and craft vendors.
“While we’re saddened that we won’t be able to accommodate our beloved arts and crafts vendors at this time, our food trucks, Taste & Live, Sidney& Solomon foods and Taqueria Jimenez will still join in on the fun,” the Carbondale Tourism Offices’ Facebook page announced. “Please support your local artists by shopping these folks’ online stores, or coming out to our next event.”
The Hemp, Hops & Shrooms festival is still scheduled to host presentations and demos from 3-7 p.m. Presentations will include a cooking with mushrooms segment from Flyway Family Farm. Susie Lighty, from Southern Illinois Universities Fermentation Science Institute, will deliver an interactive presentation on terpenes, the aromatic compounds found in plants, and how those terpenes “shape the beer drinkers’ experience.”
The night will end with Carbondale’s “Off the Rails” Concert from 7-10 p.m., featuring jam-bluegrass band, and the ever-so-aptly named, Off the Rails, headlining the evening, and ska-reggae group UNCHAiNED opening. Varies vendors are set to showcase arts, businesses, and organizations from our area. If you are a interested in participating, apply for a vendor spot by filling out this form.
