News Joint Scholarship Fundraiser event set for May 17
News Joint Events invites all Illinois cannabis brands, dispensaries, ancillary businesses, and individuals to participate in the inaugural News Joint Scholarship Fundraiser Texas Hold ‘em poker tournament scheduled for 11 a.m.-8 p.m. May 17 at Emerald Dispensary and Lounge. The free-to-the-public event will include outdoor vending and an indoor Texas Hold ‘em tournament.
Brands and individuals interested in sponsoring a representative player or players for the Texas Hold ‘em Tournament, please contact Jason Brown at editor@illinoisnewsjoint.com. An individual sponsorship includes a $25 donation and at least one item purchase from Emerald Dispensary on the day of the tournament. No Texas Hold ‘em experience needed to participate. Outdoor vending starts at 11 a.m. and continues throughout the tournament. Representative players must check in at the lounge before 1 p.m. The tournament begins at 2 p.m. and ends when a tournament champion is crowned. Outdoor food vendors will be announced soon.
Donations to the SIU Foundation Scholarship Endowment can be made here at any time. Donations can either use the name or the account number, 10055, on your gifts and they’ll get to the correct place. The SIU Foundation is an independent, nonprofit corporation that exists solely to serve the educational, service and research missions of SIU Carbondale. It is a designated 501(c)(3) organization. The foundation has appropriate approval from the Internal Revenue Service to issue tax-deductible receipts for private gifts received to support SIU. Contact Jason Brown for donations to the Oakton College Scholarship.
News Joint Scholarships will support students attending or wanting to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Oakton College cannabis programs. Preference for the scholarships will be given to applicants who demonstrate significant financial need, a passion for the plant, and a clear vision for their future careers in the cannabis industry. Net proceeds from donations go toward News Joint Scholarships. For questions about the event, scholarships, and/or donations, contact Jason Brown at the above email.
Representative players are expected to wear branded swag (shirts, hats, etc.) while playing at the poker table. No cash prizes. The top three tournament finishers will receive a trophy and a VIP Swag Bag full of products, swag, and coupons. Fourth through tenth place finishers and the Second Chance Game winner also receive Swag Bags prizes. Bounty Prizes will be given to players who knock out of the tournament a Bounty Player.
