Review: Blood Moon Moondust Infused Shake by Kaviar
It’s rare that I get to return to a strain, but Kaviar has recently released Blood Moon in both Moonrock and Moondust form. I’ve already reviewed the moonrock but was excited to compare the formats, so I stopped into Cloud9 in Champaign and picked up an eighth of Kaviar Blood Moon Moondust to review.
Blood Moon is an indica-leaning hybrid cross of EmergenC and Kush Mints. This batch of infused shake tested at 30.18% THC, 15.2% THCa, and 45.4% total cannabinoids.
The small jar was filled with a finely ground flower shaded from lime-to-forest green with tiny rounded black chunks of oil appearing at random. The loose grind clung to my fingers, forming a sticky mound when pinched, making it easy to load a bowl in one motion.
Inside the jar, a sweet blend of top-end orange peel and lemon notes were supported by a rich mix of sweet heavy cream, cooking caramel, cinnamon, and clove with hints of black pepper on the finish. Surprisingly, the light finish of black pepper came on much earlier and more powerfully on the palate taking the top note spot with only hints of lemon and sweet cream following. A floral and perfume hash note also emerged, sticking to the palate for a couple minutes post exhale.
Blood Moon hit with a fast-acting indica style buzz in both my head and body. A tight pressure initially presented as a headband around my crown but quickly grew to a full body heaviness pulling on my arms and legs. A wave of introspective calm overcame my headspace, slowing my train of thought, bringing down my energy and inducing a haze that made it difficult to focus. Overall the Blood Moon moondust delivered a surprisingly flavorful experience paired with a solid indica buzz.
