While cannabis drinks still seem “new,” at least one established brand has been around more than 15 years. Colorado-based Keef, founded in 2010, came to Illinois via a partnership with Contract Canna. I recently picked up a couple Keef flavors to review, starting with Cream Soda.

Keef Infused Cream Soda comes as a 12oz can of soda with 25mg of THC per can. The soda poured with a translucent caramel color and a light foam head that dissipated quickly. The carbonation was slightly less strong than a standard soda but still strong enough to cut through the syrupy weight, creating a crisp finish.

Vanilla and caramel created a sweet and creamy top end, the cream soda you know and love providing a classical opening. Underneath the sugary top end, a warmer, herbal bitterness provided notes of roasted thyme and basil leaf at the finish. Chilling the soda helped to dull the herbal finish and made for a much more drinkable beverage.

The soda took less than 20 minutes to go from baseline to peak, hitting me seemingly all at once. Instantly calmed, my running train of thought seemed to dissipate as I shifted to a serene, slightly dazed headspace. A few waves of tingling traced up and down my spine, but the bulk of the effect profile was mental. Fast moving on the come up and down, the entire experience was done within an hour and a half.

The ingredients were reverse osmosis water, sugar, natural and artificial flavors, cannabis extracted oil, gum arabic, and sucrose acetate isobutyrate.
