Homegrown Review: Animal Face by John Grow #38
Recreational cannabis consumers get excited when new strains hit the market, but often times, medical patients have already grown the “new” strains. As growers, most medical patients keep a close eye on genetic releases by their favorite breeders. John Grow #38 had that experience when he noticed our review of Animal Face. We ran into John Grow #38 at The Herban Legend Cup, and he told us about three strains he’d recently grown, including Animal Face, bred by Seed Junky Genetics.
Animal Face is a hybrid cross of Face Off OG and Animal Mints. The dense buds were drenched in trichomes with dark-orange pistils flaring out. Despite the density, the buds broke down perfectly without the need of a grinder. The aroma led with pine, sweet mints, and gas with back notes of rotten fruit, sweet funk, baked citrus, and that classic cookie flavor. The aroma carried over into the flavor but with a stronger cookie dough funk, pine, diesel, and mint. The back notes and exhale carried earthy fruit, sweet citrus, and added earthiness and light berries to go with that funk aftertaste that lingered.
The effects landed in the hybrid spectrum with the relatively functional head high balanced with a heavy body buzz that eventually took over the overall buzz for more sedation. The head high started with a euphoric rush that leaned on the sativa spectrum but with more doses and deeper into the buzz, the heavy-blanket feeling took over and caused less focus and motivation and more relaxation.
The patient requested this information be released: John Grow #38 can be found @city_of_wiind and said, “Feel free to hit me up for any cultivation questions/advice.” John Grow #38 would love to see as many cannabis users start growing in Illinois as possible. “Quality cannabis can be grown by anyone in as small of a space as a closet,” he said. “Enjoying amazing, fresh, homegrown cannabis is a completely different experience than purchasing a consumer packaged good.”
John Grow #38 has been a registered medical marijuana patient for five years and has been growing his own medicine for two decades.
“I started growing out of fascination and curiosity,” he said. “After smoking for the first time at a very young age, I fell in love with the plant instantly. My friend’s father had a grow behind a false wall in his basement, and after seeing that first grow room, I knew I wanted one of my own. Squeezing the nearly ripe Cinderella 99 nugs and smelling the fruit punch funk they gave off sparked a journey that I will be on until I die.”
