Review: Cultivate’s Ice Cream Cake by Ieso
By Theo
A few Illinois cultivators release Ice Cream Cake regularly, now including Ieso, and versions of this gassy vanilla laden indica hybrid are available on almost every market across the country. I might not have thought to try Cultivate’s take on Ice Cream Cake had it not been available in a one gram jar at Consume Marion.
Ice Cream Cake is the love child of arguably the two greatest “dessert” cultivars of all time, Wedding Cake and Gelato #33. Judging by its insane nationwide popularity, the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree.

My first thought as I examined the two buds that made up my gram was it seemed Gelato dominant in every way. The buds were plump, tight, and pine green chunks with traces of dark purple sugar leaves, along with creamsicle pistils.
The nose was sweet cream and spices with a bit of burned rubber on top. I would have confidently guessed it was Gelato if I didn’t already know better. The smoke was more of the same: sweet vanilla spice cake with crisp skunky finish created a mild but satisfying smoking experience.
The effects fit neatly into that vibe. I found Ice Cream Cake by Cultivate to be an immediately soothing indica hybrid, primarily physical in nature. Again, I didn’t get any Wedding Cake’s almost overwhelming cerebral onset, just a relaxing, anxiety free experience from one end to the other, with a nice euphoric body high to go along with it.
A second and final dosage did become only slightly pleasantly sedative, with an amplification of the body effects, followed by a good night’s sleep.
Ultimately, there might be better options if looking for is a heavy, “lights out” indica, but Cultivate’s Ice Cream Cake is a home run as a daytime or early evening indica hybrid. I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up an eighth jar next time.
