Review: Orange Velvet Underground Preroll by Legacy
I’ve often joked that smoking the concentrate of a strain before smoking the flower is equivalent to watching the movie before reading the book. Either way, I enjoy comparing and contrasting the differences. After reviewing the Orange Velvet Underground RBX Live Resin by Legacy a few days ago, I was eager to try Legacy’s 1g Preroll of the same strain for another “First Look” review.
As mentioned in the live resin review, Orange Velvet Underground RBX, bred by Ethos Genetics, is an evenly balanced hybrid created through a three-way cross of (Sour Tangie and Mandarin Sunset) and Orange Velvet (clone only). Picked up from nuEra Champaign, this 1g Orange Velvet Underground RBX cone tested at 21.46% THCa, 0.41% Δ9-THC, 0.17%, CBGa, and 22.04% total cannabinoids. The terpene profile led with an almost evenly balance trio of limonene, β-caryophyllene, and β-myrcene. The secondary terpenes included linalool, α-humulene, guaiol, and α-bisabolol.
The preroll from the childproof TerpLoc® pouches had a citrus, spice, and earthy aroma. The flavor, though, packed that sharp orange and lemon citrus on the front end with notes of earthy pine, lavender and spice. The back end carried heavier notes of hops, earthy skunk, and sweet spice. On the inhale and exhale, the flavor also carried hints of lemon, wood, and diesel.
The sharp orange and lemon flavor lingered but not as long and distinct as with the live resin. Overall though, both profiles shared similar flavors with the concentrate carrying more orange-lemon citrus and the flower carrying more earthy notes, especially on the back end.
The effects for the Orange Velvet Underground preroll and concentrate both landed in that hybrid range, but the preroll carried an energetic and cerebral high longer into the buzz than did the concentrate. I smoked the preroll in two sessions because I was interrupted during the first half the joint. After each session, I was productive with mental work at my desk and physical work with some much-needed pruning on my plants at home.
The preroll body buzz onset was slower and lighter than the concentrate but shared the same style of tension relaxing, starting at the neck and shoulders. I took advantage of the pain-relieving but functioning preroll body buzz with the plant pruning and other homegrown chores during the day.
